Scyagenics
Scyagenics was established in May 2007
as part of the Young Achievement Australia (YAA) Biotechnology
Entrepreneur
Program™. This 6-month program allows young researchers
the opportunity to develop
a start up company that will design and sell a biotechnological
product targeted to the community. The participation
of Scyagenics in this year’s
program is supported by the Victorian government, the
Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and Bio21 Australia.
Scyagenics comprises 12 energetic and passionate postgraduate
and undergraduate students from a wide variety of Life
Science disciplines; including molecular biology, chemistry,
chemical engineering, microbiology, cell culture, protein
science and developmental biology. Collectively, these
members
offer diverse skills, knowledge and interests
that contribute greatly towards the vision of Scyagenics
and its product. Each member of the company is committed
to delivering an innovative product to improve and facilitate
everyday work in the laboratory.
Our Mission
At Scyagenics, we believe that at
the very heart of science lies the human desire for
a better world which
we hope
to achieve through advancements in medicine, an appreciation
for and
protection
of the environment, and by providing an overall benefit
to society and the lives of all people on our planet.
Unfortunately, all too
often the perspective on these high goals seems to
be obstructed by the troubles of every day business
in the laboratory. At Scyagenics,
we have the vision of a lab environment where scientists
can devote all their passion and intellect to the direct
advancement of their
projects and the translation of their results into
benefits for all.
It is our mission and immediate goal to inspire and help
scientists to attain the scientific awareness needed
to create and produce innovative, high impact scientific output by providing
them with valuable
tools and resources designed to facilitate and enhance
daily routine in the laboratory.
Our Product
Scyagenics has identified a great need in the
scientific community for a comprehensive and trustworthy yet compact and easy
to use source of information for every day
hands-on laboratory
work. As the extent of information accessible over
the internet is exploding, scientists are looking for something
to fill the gap
between heavy textbooks and encyclopaedias, and the
limitless but volatile supply of information from the World Wide
Web, the credibility
of which is mostly difficult to ascertain.
Our product, the Scyagenics
Laboratory User’s
Guide (SLUG™), is a customisable and universally useful
pocketsize reference aimed at students
and scientists working
in research
laboratories. It provides commonly used protocols including
background information, troubleshooting advice and safety issues.
